Review! Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics Palette + Swatches!

Hello beautifuls, hope you all are doing well! I finally picked up the Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics Palette over this past weekend and wanted to do a review for you all! I'm thinking of doing a comparison of the two palettes!

If you're a big fan of their Naked Basics, you'll love this palette! For those of you who loooove matte shades, you'll love this palette, It has all matte, cool tone, taupe-hued, never before seen shadows! If you loved the matte shades from the Naked Basics, this is your next beauty buy! I personally loved the matte shades from the previous palette, and the highlight Venus, but I'm a matte shadow fan so this palette was a must have.

The front packaging features Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics with a realistic look of the shades that are in the palette. The previous palette did not have this feature, and was very plain.

On the bottom side of the packaging, you can find the ingredients listing for every shadow in the palette. Very helpful to those who have certain allergies in makeup products.

The back of the packaging features that same realistic look of the shadows, along with the shadow names and a little biography about the palette.

Annnnd, here she is! Out of the packaging! The familiar sleek and compact design, with the slightly raised up name to give a nice effect on the palette lid.

The back of the palette is very simple; Beauty With An Edge, general information about Urban Decay, and the expiration date of the palette.

Upon opening the palette, you will find six never before seen shades, cooler tone, taupe-hued shadows; Skimp, Stark, Frisk, Cover, Primal, and Undone. The palette has a small sized mirror under the lid, making this palette a great travel buddy or for fixing up eye mistakes!

I feel as if Frisk and Cover have more of a medium gray undertone to them and undone has a darker gray undertone to it...

Swatches!

The first two shades don't show up too well against the fair skin tone of my arm :) From left to right: Skimp, Stark, Frisk, Cover, Primal, Undone

Pros:
High pigmentation
High quality
Soft texture
Long lasting
Easy to blend
Shadows have no unpleasant chemical scents
Small and sleek packaging makes palette travel and storage friendly

Cons:
Pricey - $29
Slightly powdery
No shimmer shades (if you like shimmer highlights)

Look Ideas:
Interviews
Bridal
School
Formal
Meeting the Parents
First Date
You can make this look for any occasion, but it's perfect for those serious moments where you want to look put together, but not overly put together.

Final Thoughts:
Honestly, there isn't much to say about this palette, other than, it's completely all mattes for those of us who enjoy all matte eyeshadows. I do like this palette as a quick look option for those days I'm in a hurry and want a simple neutral, but put together looking eye for the day. This palette would be great for students, especially us who wake up early for classes, this palette is a quick option for you.

I definitely think it's a great thought to go out, swatch it, and think about purchasing the palette.

What are your thoughts on the palette?
Would you like me to do a tutorial using this palette?

I was nominated for The Liebster Award!

Hi beautifuls! I was nominated this morning for the Liebster Award by TimeWithYana :) I had no idea what this award was and I've seen it floating around twitter and blogspot a few times. According to TimeWithYana, she says it's more of a way for bloggers to connect, support, and discover each other, instead of rating each other on a "who's better and who's not" basis. I've never won a award for my blog before and I've only been blogging a little over a month (it's been a fun first month, too!)

Rules:
Thank the blogger you nominated you
Answer the 11 questions that were sent to you
Nominate 11 blogs with less than 200 followers
Create 11 questions for your nominees to answer

Yana's Question With Answers!
1. What is your favorite quote and why? "Get as rude as possible and don't let anyone tell you how to live." by Mick Mars of Motley Crue. Without this quote, I wouldn't be who I am today, I wouldn't have the personality I have today and I wouldn't be as strong as I am today. Never let anyone push you around or put you down for what you believe, love doing, or for who you are.

2. Blush, lipstick, eyeshadow? Eyeshadow! I'm an eyeshadow junkie; palette, single, duo, trio, you name it! I named my blog after my eyeshadow obsession.

3. Where do you find inspiration? My favorite music artists; Nikki Sixx (he is also a photographer and helped me alot in expressing myself through makeup and art), Kelly Eden, her paintings help inspire me to keep creating new looks! A lot of favorite bloggers and youtubers have made an impact on my inspiration.

4. What is the best thing about blogging? Photos! I loooove photos. I've been around cameras and photography the majority of my life and I highly rely on art and photographs to help me see the other side of the world. In makeup photos, it helps me decide if I want to buy that product, do I want to go out and swatch it

5. What pair of shoes could you wear for the rest of your life? My blow flats I from Target a few years ago. They are old, haha. Still in good condition, though! I buy new pairs of flats often and I still end of going back to the ones I got from Target...

6. One thing you are the most obsessed with? Horror, gory and slasher movies. That is all.

7. What is your dream place to visit? France! I took French for three years in high school and still haven't gone to that country and seen Versailles! Come on, who doesn't want to see the hall of mirrors and painting in that place?

8. Twitter, Instagram, or Tumblr? Instagram, because I post photos on my Instagram constantly! And it's a fun app to use!

9. What annoys you about blogging? Being completely honest here, the annoyance of waiting for people to follow, subscribe, like and comment. Even though I just started blogging and making videos on youtube (which is probably every other 10,000 girls out there too), sometimes it's hard to not want to quit because of this, but then someone comments or follows me on Twitter or Bloglovin' and I get all excited. Despite the blogs I come across with tons of followers and comments, I still blog. I love blogging, it helps me express how I truly feel about makeup and I'm going to continue with it!

10. Do you like shopping? Of course! .... when I have money, haha.

11. What is your favorite brand? Clinique! That have been in my life the longest, since early teenage years! This brand has and always will help, heal, and save my skin. I trust their products on my skin and face because they've done nothing wrong to it!

I nominate:

My questions for you...
1. Why did you start blogging?
2. If you could only have one type of makeup item, what would it be?
3. What beauty item are you currently loving at the moment?
4. What types of movies do you like?
5. Sephora or Ulta?
6. What do you dislike about blogging?
7. What is currently on the top of your makeup wishlist?
8. What do you store your makeup goodies in?
9. Favorite brand of brushes?
10. What is your favorite drugstore brand of makeup?
11. Do you have any pets?

Looking forward to reading your answers!

How To: Save Money on Buying Makeup!

Over the years of buying various brands of makeup from the drugstore brands to the higher end brands, I've learned that it gets expensive! I would spend possibly hundreds on makeup purchases a year and didn't know that I could save a little bit more money here and there! I have a few tips and tricks that I follow to help me save money on purchasing makeup!

Checking the Sunday Paper!
I know, I know.. it's a hassle to go out and buy one of these but, they are so cheap these days, why not! My father gets the paper every Sunday and that newspaper is usually loaded with good coupons! I've spotted L'Oreal, Revlon, Maybelline, Covergirl, Almay, and Neutrogena with their own coupons. Plus, I've spotted a few distributed brands with their "brand saver" booklet with more coupons!

Coupons.com
Website | Mobile App: Android & iPhone
I didn't start using this website until a few months ago and I'm so glad I discovered it! You can find coupons for just about anything, including cosmetics! I've seen Revlon, Maybelline, Covergirl, L'Oreal and many other makeup brands with coupon savings that add up to $20 with all the coupons combined, which really cuts your bill! I've printed off coupons for $1-$2 off mascaras, eyeshadows and foundations. They rotate their coupons every few weeks, so checking back often helps you find great deals.

Retailmenot.com
Website | Mobile App: Android & iPhone
This website helps you find deals and sales at retail stores near you! They have an option of picking in-store or online coupons to a lot of stores, including Sephora and Ulta! It gives you the option of saving coupons for later use, and if you have their mobile app, all you have to do is present the coupon barcode at the register! I've used this plenty of times to check for the closest deals and sales on beauty items, especially during the holiday season! It comes to great handy for those of you who shop for cosmetics online!

Cartwheel by Target
Website | Mobile App: Android & iPhone
I've used their mobile app on many occasions and it has come in handy, espeically when I need to pick of essential items like foundation, powders, concealers, etc. If you check around their beauty section of the app (which every week their deals are rotated and changed), you will have 5% to about 20% of certain cosmetics by brands or if you're lucky you'll find %10 of an entire brand, no matter what you buy! You just open up the app, save your deals and show your barcode at the register!

Ulta Beauty Club
Website | Mobile App: Android & iPhone
Their beauty club is free to sign up and they've completely revamped how it works now! After you've racked up a certain amount of points, you get a certain amount of dollars of your entire purchase. This is great if you regularly shop with Ulta as your points will add up pretty fast!

Walgreens & CVS Rewards Card
Website (Walgreens) & Website (CVS) | Mobile App: Android & iPhone
This is also free to sign up with their loyalty cards! If you're like me, you hunt down Walgreens and CVS for new and limited edition makeup that is released by makeup brands (in my area, Walgreens always has the new and limited edition cosmetics). Or, you just buy all your cosmetics there because they always have a buy one, get one deal going on! You get a certain dollar amount back to spend on your purchase after receiving a number of points with their rewards cards. They often do a special on their reward cards; where they double the amount of points you get, making it that much easier to get more money off your final purchase!

I hope this list helps you out with your makeup buying. I've relied on couponing so much to save on buying makeup and it really has paid off. I've been able to get more quantity for a small price and then I'm able to splurge on makeup from Sephora! Whenever you're out makeup shopping, don't forget to bring your coupons, apps and deals along with you!

What are some ways you save on buying makeup?

Trash Talk: Empties! + Mini Reviews! (October 2014)

Hello beautifuls! It's that time again! Time to pull out my bag of empty products, share a mini review on them and then recycle/throw out the containers!

Skin:

Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes:
These are by far my favorite go-to makeup removing wipes to removed my face makeup and leftover mascara that my eye makeup remover didn't get. They leave no residue on my face, they take everything off, they have pretty much no smell, they don't break me out and best of all; they're inexpensive!

Tree Hut Shea Sugar Scrub (Pomegrante Acai):
I believe this was in my last empties post, haha. I just love this product. I could rave all day about this stuff. They come in an assortment of different scents, they leave my skin smooth for days, prepare my skin for a close shave, help with dry skin and they leave no residue on the shower floor!

Satin Care with a touch of Olay Shaving Cream:
I have really been loving this stuff for shaving! I used to use the skintimate brand and I switched this brand and I can't recall why now. This is barely scented which is a plus for me since my skin is very sensitive to scented soaps and gives my legs great moisture!

LUSH Dark Angels (Sample)
I don't know how I feel about this stuff right now... I only used the sample a few times before it ran out so, I didn't get a full run to try it out and see how I liked it. I do notice my oil isn't as oily right now since using the small bit of sample (that also could also be from the weather changing). I did like the feeling of it; felt and smelled very earthy and natural!

Clinique Claryifying Lotion (#3):
I can not. I repeat can not live without this in my life. My skin can not live without it. I can change my moisturizer and face wash up all I want but this toner is the key ingredient in my skincare routine. It balances the pH level in my skin, keeps my acne and break outs in check and prepares my skin for the night and day! I've been using it since late teenage years, nothing will ever replace it.

Dove Sensitive Skin Body Wash (Unscented)
This body wash is great. I always end up returning to it, no matter what. I loooove body washes from Victoria's Secret and Bath & Body Works but, they irritate my skin so much if I use them for too long of a time. I can use them for awhile and then my skin just gets irritated from them (they get dried, cracked and red) so I stuck to using this body wash. Amazing!

Hair

L'Oreal Advanced Haircare Volume Filler Thickening Conditioner:
I always run out of conditioner before shampoo. Does anyone else have that issue? I really love this shampoo and conditioner set but, it's not worth the hype. I have long hair and it has it's day when it wants to be thick and when it wants to be thin. Not much I can say about this other than ... it makes my hair feel thick but not drastically thick.

Tresemme Mega Firm Control Hairspray:
This is like cement for your hair! I use this mainly for the "poof" on my head (yes, that snooky kinda think I get asked all the time about, haha) and it holds it in place all day!

Makeup:

L'Oreal Voluminous Miss Manga Mascara:
I really loved this mascara when it came out. I really did, until the smell got to me. It has a chemically smell to it and it dried out very fast on me. It did give my lashes length and a little volume but that is about it. I probably won't be purchasing this again because the smell bothered my eyes. Good mascara though, horrible scent!

Dior Diorshow Mascara:
NO, NEVER AGAIN! Not only is this over priced for a mascara, but the wand is huge (and it's not that huge for a sample size mascara) and you can't use it properly. It did absolutely nothing to my lashes and made my eyes burn. It has a fragrant smell to it, like someone sprayed it with a perfume. That's a complete no.

Makeup Brush Care:

Baby Shampoo:
Happy to say, I'm finally retiring baby shampoo from my makeup brush cleaning routine! I found an alternative, a better alternative! This is a cheap method of cleaning makeup brushes but if you have long wearing foundations or concealers or high pigmented eyeshadows and you have stains left from them, this will not get them out fully. It cleans the brush but never gets the stains on completely.

Candles:

Bath & Body Works Candle (Mahogany Teakwood):
This was also in my last empties post! I always, always, ALWAYS repurchase this candle everytime I go to Bath & Body Works during their 2 for $22 deal on their 3-wick candles. It's my absolute favorite candle, it smells amazing, long burning time and over all great quality candle!

719 Walnet Avenue Candle (Mcintosh Apples):
This candle is from walmart. I found it awhile ago and purchased it for my parents for my kitchen downstairs. Even they said it smelled great and like apples. Sadly, it doesn't have a long burning time to it and once you get down to the wick area, it gives a bad burning smell. This candle was pretty inexpensive (I wanna say $10?) so it's not bad for the price. Good quality candle!

What were your empties for the month of October?

Friday Hits & Misses!

Happy Friday everyone! Hope your Friday is going awesome! Today, I'd like to share my Friday hits and misses; products I loved and dreaded through this week.

Hits!

Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps (Peppermint):
I recently picked this up at Target hearing great reviews about it from various blogs and watching videos as another method of washing makeup brushes. I love this stuff! I was using Baby Shampoo for the longest time to wash out my makeup brushes, and it just wasn't getting the job done. I would have stains left over from foundation, eyeshadows and other powder products that would not come out. This stuff is truely magical, it cleans my brushes, gets every amount of color out of the bristles and, leaves them feeling soft and smelling good!

BeautyCleanser (Solid):
For the longest time, I was washing my beauty sponges with baby shampoo and I could never get the concealer and foundation stains out of the sponge, never! So, I picked this bad boy up at Sephora and gave it a try and I was surprised that it actually worked! It got all the stains out of the sponge (new and old) and made my sponge look brand new again.

Urban Decay Primer Potion (Original):
I started using this primer late September going into October and have loved using it so far. It holds my eyeshadows on all day, prevents creasing, and it works great on my eyelids, which can get oily sometimes. It does unfortunately make my eyes watery if I apply it my lower lash line area so that part is a miss for me, but other than that, it's a great primer!

Maybelline ColorSensational Creamy Matte Lipstick (Daringly Nude):
I finally broke down last night and bought a few of these new Maybelline lipsticks that were released a little while ago. I have fallen in love with them. They are a perfect matte look on my lips, doesn't dry them out, they smell delicious, pretty packaging, and the color payoff is nice. Definitely going to buy more shade colors!

Misses!

BH Cosmetics Contour & Blush 6 Color Palette:
I absolutely looove the blushes in this palette. They are highly pigmented, long lasting, beautiful shades but, the contour shade.... broke! I found it at Urban Outfitters for around $12 so I guess it's not that bad that it broke since I paid so little for the palette. I bought a second palette of this (exact same palette) for my makeup kit I use on my friends and potential clients and now I'm worried this too will happen!

As you can see above, the contour shade broke on it's own...

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara:
No, never again! I like that it gives my lashes length and little bit of volume I can't get over the scent of it! It smells too chemically for my preference and the moment I applied this for the first time, it burned my eyes and made them watery all day.

Urban Decay Nail Polish (Zodiac):
I was really excited to find Urban Decay nail polishes at Nordstrom Pack for around $5, I litterly jumped up with excitement but, even with a top and base coat, this polish chips horribly within a day. I thought these nail polishes would be high quality... guess not!

ELF Eyelid Primer (Pearl):
I love the original sheer eyelid primer from ELF, so I decided to give this formula a try. It makes my eyes all glittery! I thought it would give a pearl look to my eyelids, thus making the eyeshadows appear with more of a pearl look to me. I can't get over all the glitter... and it was falling all over my face! Eek!

I'd like to hear from you! What are your Friday hits and misses?

5 Reasons Why Your Makeup Doesn't Last

I've been asked questions from friends, family, strangers; "how does your makeup look so fresh throughout the day? What are you using?" I have no big secret, well... maybe a few, but, they are really just tips I've been taught down the road from my mom and have lived by!

1. Your Skincare Routine
This is the most crucial ingredient to having flawless and long lasting makeup! It all starts from the skin on your face! If you're constantly going to sleep and waking up without cleansing, moisturizing, toning and treating your skin on a daily basis, you are cheating yourself! Although a good diet, plenty of exercise, rest and water are good for our bodies and skin, we have to help cleanse it from the day's worth of elements it's been exposed to (dirt, dust, sun, humidity, rain, etc.). Cleansing helps to purify your skin of impurities, toning helps to balance the pH in your skin, moisturizing helps to restore the moisture into your skin and treating helps with problems are such as acne, dark spots, wrinkles, etc.

2. You Never Wash Your Makeup Brushes
So, you finally got away from those goofy sponge wedges and eyeshadow applicators that come in your makeup sets, and you moved onto brushes! Great! Do you wash them? How often do you wash them? This goes right along with your skincare routine, as washing your brushes is about as important as washing your wash every night. Every time you use your brushes you collect dirt, oil, old makeup, and bacteria in them, thus, putting that back onto your face (which is a high potential risk for breaking you out, allergic reactions and eye infections). I recommend spot cleaning your brushes daily with a "Daily Brush Cleanser" and then weekly deep cleaning them all with Baby Shampoo, Dr. Bronners Magic Soap or specially designed makeup brush cleaners. It's a pesky job but, your face will thank you in the long run!

3. Being Unaware of Your Skin Type
A good majority of people who wear makeup are totally unaware of what their skin type is! Whether you have extremely dry to extremely oily skin, you need to know what you are dealing with before you purchase makeup. Your skin type makes a huge impact on the longevity of your makeup.

4. You're Using the Wrong Makeup for Your Skin Type
Let's say you do know your skin type but have no idea what to use with that skin type or you just don't notice that you're making this small mistake. Tons of people do it, don't worry. We are not perfect and we make mistakes! If you have oily skin, using a foundation, powder and primer that are driven more towards dry skin, there's a high chance it won't last long. Your oil production will break down the makeup, thus causing streaks, creases, patches, fading and melting! Oily skin needs oil-free, shine-free and oil-controlling properties where as dry skin needs more of the oil as that skin type lacks it. You need a product that is designed for your skin type that works with it, not against it! No matter your skin type, there are tons of products out there that work for each and every skin type there is! You have to search and experiment.

5. You Haven't Discovered Primers!
You are missing out if you have not discovered these! They make them for your face, eyes, and lips. They create a barrier between your face and makeup which prevents makeup from settling into lines, creases, and pore where it breaks down. For example, if you live in a humid climate (Florida) or have extremely oily skin like I do, you need a primer that has multiple abilities; oil-control, shine-control, long lasting (I mean for hours) where as if you have dry skin, you better off with a primer that is moisturizing to your skin throughout the day and lasts all day long!

Finding skincare, foundation, primer, washing brushes and all things makeup related you can go to just about any makeup counter in a Department Store, MAC counter, ULTA, or a Sephora where they can help you one on one and provide tips and samples to find what's right for your skin!

Review! Too Faced Everything Nice Palette! + Video!

Hello again beautifuls! I was requested by one of my wonderful new subscribers on my YouTube channel to do a review on the Too Faced Everything Nice Palette I bought from Sephora a few weeks ago. I will have a video up as well for you all to watch and enjoy at the end of the blog post!

Back of the packaging the palette comes in. Features what you get in the package; the palette (20 shadows, 2 bronzers, 2 blushes, exclusive makeup bag, deluxe better than sex mascara, exclusive brush set) and ingredients lists for all eyeshadows, bronzers and blushes.

The front of palette features "Everything Nice; That's what pretty girls are made of." and has gold accents and is very girly looking. (sorry mine is a little dirty, I've been using it)

The name of the palette "Everything Nice" is featured on the spine of the

The makeup bad has the name "Too Faced" on the other side of the bag

You receive twenty eyeshadows (again, sorry mine a little dirty from swatching and using the palette for looks already) You get a great variety of highlights, jewel tone and neutral tone shades to make an endless number of eye looks.

Blushes from left to right: Sweet Pink and Papa Don't Peach
Bronzers from left to right: Chocolate Soleil & Inner Light

The goodies you get inside the packaging along with the palette!

The back features more the gold accents and what you get inside of the palette, expiration date, and general Too Faced information.

You receive an exclusive makeup bag that's great for traveling with, stashing your makeup brushes in, keeping the palette inside or for anything you'd like to use it for! The glitter does come off every now and then.

You get a how-to guide for four looks to make with this palette (there's one on the back of the guide). These little guides are great for those who are having issues trying to find a look for the day and you can always reference this to come up with a new look. I honestly love these little guides.

You get an exclusive three brush set that are encased in glitter to go along with glitter and gold accents on the palette. You won't have to worry about glitter falling all over the place because the glitter is encased in a plastic covering!

You also a deluxe size sample of "Better Than Sex" mascara by Too Faced.

Now on to the swatching!

High pigmentation
Long lasting
Good quality

Easy to blend

Makeup bag, brush set, deluxe mascara sample included

Cons:
Limited Edition
Sephora Exclusive
Some shades have a lot of fallout

Final Thoughts:
I honestly think this palette is worth a thought of going to Sephora, swatching the colors and possibly buying it. It's a holiday limited edition palette being exclusive to Sephora so if you're interested in the palette, be sure to go out and look at it and get your hands on it as soon as you can. Too Faced has never failed me on the quality of their products, especially their eye products. You get a lot in this palette, and I mean alot. You get twenty eyeshadows, two blushes, two bronzers, a makeup bag, a brush set, a how-to guide, a mascara sample... what more can you ask from a palette?
